Maria, CA
Hey y'all, it's Maria here. I've been inside for a while now, and let me tell you, managing money in prison isn't easy. But I've learned a thing or two along the way. I've always been savvy with my finances, so I started by saving a portion of the little income I made from my prison job. It's not much, but every penny counts. I also learned to trade goods and services with other inmates to make the most of what I had.
One thing I've found really useful is keeping track of every cent I spend. Budgeting is key, even in here. I've seen too many people get into debt because they didn't manage their money wisely. As for investing, well, it's not like I have a stock portfolio, but I've learned to spot opportunities to make a little extra here and there. It's all about being resourceful.
Romel Leach, (USP Atlanta)
I've been in and out of the system, and I've learned a thing or two about money along the way. First off, budgeting is crucial. It's easy to spend every cent as soon as it comes in, but that's a sure way to end up broke. I've also found that avoiding debt is essential. It's tempting to borrow, but getting into debt only leads to more problems.
Another thing I've learned is the importance of building credit, even from behind bars. It might sound strange, but having good credit can open doors once you're out. It's all about thinking ahead, even when you're stuck in here. Financial literacy is key, my friends. Knowing how to manage your money can make a world of difference when you're back on the outside.
John Bradley (Phoenix Arizona)
What's up, everyone? It's John. Let me tell you, understanding money and how to manage it is a game-changer, even in prison. I've seen too many people struggle because they didn't have basic financial skills. Budgeting, saving, and avoiding debt are crucial, no matter where you are. In here, I've learned to make the most of the little I have. It's not easy, but it's possible.
Financial literacy is so important, especially for us in the prison system. It's not just about surviving inside; it's about setting ourselves up for success when we get out. I've seen firsthand how having a grip on my finances has given me a sense of control and hope for the future. It's a tough journey, but learning about money has been a game-changer for me.

A MINOR SETBACK FOR A MAJOR COMEBACK
I love money so much I wanted a better understanding so I started studying it. I would call home and ask for certain books, surround myself with people that can teach me something I didn’t already know. I took the good habits home with me, so the grind doesn't stop. I was preparing myself for the arrival, it was a minor setback for a major comeback. I had good credit in the streets, but not corporate credit. I had to get my credit fixed, so I started working on it while I was incarcerated. Once I got it to where I needed it to be, I applied for credit cards and had my mom and my fiancée use them and keep them in
HOW MONEY WORKS
If we want to start at the root of an investment, it is vital to understand what money is, how it works, and what incentives are behind all parties involved in a transaction. To understand this, I believe we have to understand our monetary system. Our monetary system is a complex shell game mixed with smoke and mirrors that are hardly ever discussed, let alone taught. In this article, I will do my best to describe how the United States’ and many other countries’ monetary system works. I will then share specific examples of how this information can be utilized in real world investing with a focus on real estate.
